As 2025 kicks off, so does the anticipation of new films to come for movie lovers across Highlands High School. A mix of sequels, remakes, and new original hits are to come as the year progresses.
From names like How to Train a Dragon to The Black Phone 2, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Family-friendly movies are no stranger in this year’s movie catalog, one of the most popular ones being Snow White. Another live-action Disney movie is in the making, following popular ones like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
These live actions have been a hit, and this one will surely be one as well. Rachel Zegler takes the big role as the princess and Disney takes a new stride on the infamous dwarfs using CGI to create the role. This movie is set to hit the theatres on March 21.
For video game lovers, a Minecraft movie is also expected shortly. Coming out on April 4, the film features Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, and Danielle Brooks to create a fun action-packed movie using classic Mojang features in the original game. It will make an inviting experience for old players and new players alike.
A classic action movie many are looking forward to is Superman. David Corenswet plays the iconic DC character in this origin story of the famous hero and will face off against villains like Lex Luthor played by Nicholas Hoult and Metamorpho played by Anthony Carrigan. It makes for a great outing in the summer as it comes out July 11.
As seen in late 2024, many teasers and trailers were shown in theaters hinting at a live-action How to Train a Dragon. The actual trailer for the film set the date of its release on June 13. The DreamWorks team had tremendous success on the animated version, and many fans are excited to see what they have come up with for the live one. Mason Thames stars as Hiccup while Nico Parker takes the role of Astrid. This movie will surely be a big deal for many generations to enjoy.
Another summer movie is Jurassic World: Rebirth, the fourth in the Jurassic franchise, which will be released on July 2. The movie stars Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson, and many other famous actors. Dinosaurs and adventures are sure to occur throughout the movie.
The popular horror movie The Black Phone came out in 2021 and is to get a sequel this year. Ethan Hawke returns as “The Grabber” on October 17. This movie is sure to be filled with new characters and new horrors. Many fans are looking forward to seeing how the story progresses with this sequel.
Musical lovers also have something exciting to look forward to with Wicked Part Two, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2024 adaptation of the Boadway classic. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. Fans can expect dazzling visuals, show-stopping songs, and a dramatic storyline on November 27.
