Stacks of notecards cover desks while homework and study guides pile up during the final weeks of school. After spending hours studying for exams and finishing assignments, many students need a break and look for something to help them relax.
With exams coming around the corner, students rush to finish studying and complete assignments. Between late nights, long study sessions, and pressure to do well on tests, the students’ stress builds up. To cope with stress, many students turn to movies as a way to relax and take their minds off school.
“I think watching movies helps me take my mind off school, calm down and focus on something else instead of stressing out,” Maggie Frimming (9) said.
Taking breaks during stressful testing weeks can help students feel recharged and relaxed after long hours of studying. For some, watching a comforting movie or TV series can be a great way to feel less overwhelmed and reset before returning to studying.
“Usually after I study for a hard test or do something for a long time, I like to take a break to watch a movie or series,” Frimming (9) said.
Students said balancing studying with time to relax is important during one of the busiest weeks of the school year. Even short breaks can help to stay focused and avoid feeling burnt out after a long time of studying.
“Taking an hour to watch a movie can help me feel less stressed and more prepared to study again after,” Hannah Zilliox (9) said.
For many students, funny movies are one of the easiest ways to relax during finals week because they can help take their mind off tests, homework and studying. Comedies and comfort movies are popular because they can make the stress feel a little more manageable.
“I think Adam Sandler movies are de-stressing because they are funny, and I find movies that have a good sense of humor,” Zilliox (9) said.
Although finals week can feel overwhelming for many students, taking time to relax and refocus can make a major difference. Whether it’s spending time watching a movie, taking a short break, or just stepping away from the schoolwork, it can help return to studying with a better mindset and less stress.
“Sometimes the best thing I can do is take a deep breath and relax,” Zilliox (9) said.
