In December of 2023, Playboi Carti announced that his highly anticipated album, I AM MUSIC, would be released in 2024. After four years of being lied to over and over about the release date for this album, this delighted many fans as five singles were unofficially released, marking the beginning of the rollout, with one song even being titled “2024.”
However, 2024 passed without a word from the artist. This caused dedicated fans who had been waiting for this album for over four years to lose all faith in its release, and it started the hashtag #IAMLIAR across all of social media.
This hashtag stems not only from the lie that the album would be released in 2024, but also from all the lies fans have been fed since the release of Carti’s Whole Lotta Red.
Since mid-2021, Carti has teased something about the upcoming album every few months, but the alleged release dates all passed without a word.
This vicious cycle of lies has some fans fed up with Carti. In polls, over 60% of fans said that they were no longer excited about the allegedly upcoming album.
One thing Carti is known for is his “aura” and fans are saying that he lost all his “aura” because the mother of his children revealed that as of January 2025, Carti had not contacted her or his children in any way for over six months.
This led to fans joking that he was doing the mysterious bit that he isknown for in his own family. Seeing this artist neglect not only his career but his family as well has left a bad taste in the fans’ mouths.
As the rap genre continues to change, Carti is getting left in the dust.
