Varsity football gets through the first round of playoffs with a 35-7 win

The Highlands Bluebirds carried a 35-7 win, gaining a spot in the second round of state playoffs, against the Greenup County Musketeers.

Offensively, Highlands had 126 rushing yards, allowing 68, and 254 passing yards, allowing 94.

Quarterback Rio Litmer (12) completed 8 of 12 pass attempts for 207 yards, throwing 4 touchdown passes.

On the ground, Litmer led the rushing attempts with 4 carries for 47 yards, while Colton Kremer (10) added 40 yards on 4 attempts.

In the receiving game, Bryce Armstrong (10) led with 3 receptions for 90 yards. John Feldbruegge (11) contributed 1 reception for 69 yards.

The team finished with 5 receiving touchdowns and 5 extra points scored.

On defense, Cooper Benke (11) had 2 solo tackles, and Jace Wiloughby (11) had 1 solo tackle.

Feldbruegge, Michael Tincher (11), and Brady Carnohan (12) each had one interception.

Highlands will be at home again this week, facing Ashland Blazer High School this Friday, Nov. 14, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

Ady Klosterman is a junior at Highlands High School. This is her third year of high school journalism, but her sixth year overall. She participated in journalism for two years at Johnson Elementary School and again in her eighth-grade year at Highlands Middle School. Ady used to write a lot of stories when she was younger. She would type them on a computer and print them, even though they were just around 10 pages long and packed with details (and run-on sentences). While she enjoys writing, Ady’s true interest is sports photography. She grew up in a household that loves sports, and you can guarantee the TV was turned on during game days. She spends a lot of her spare time at sporting events, most often on the sidelines taking pictures or yelling from the student section, and when she isn’t at an event, she’s usually catching up on something from the previous one or getting ready for the next one.

Zac Crawford, Staff

Zac Crawford is a sophomore at Highlands High School. It is his second year in publications, and he hopes to improve his photography skills this year. He plays baseball for Highlands and his travel ball team.

Peytan Rice, Intro. Staff

Peytan Rice is a freshman at Highlands and has been enrolled in Fort Thomas Independent Schools since sixth grade. She cheers for the Highlands Junior Varsity team, and she’s involved in the FCCLA program. She enjoys listening to music, hanging out with friends and traveling. This is her first year in the Journalism program. Peytan loves to write articles about anything for the program but she also loves to take photos of sports as well.

Nora Baker, Intro. Staff

Nora Baker is a Freshman at Highlands and is taking Intro to journalism . She has been enrolled in Fort Thomas Independent School District since she was in kindergarten at Moyer Elementary. She plays volleyball for Highlands. She enjoys listening to music, taking pictures, baking, and hanging out with friends or family. Her favorite part of journalism is going to all kind of sporting events and capturing photos. She loves to give back to her community by volunteering and collecting toys each Christmas season. Nora is super excited to see where her journalism career at Highlands takes her.
