Blue and white confetti falls on the heads of 56,000 joyous fans as bright fireworks erupt in the sky above. Players rushed towards the pitcher’s mound, their screams echoing throughout the field. They weren’t just celebrating a win; they were celebrating history.
From the beginning of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers were the team to beat as they were fresh off a World Series win in 2024. Many of their stars from the years prior were returning to continue what they started. Players like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Will Smith maintained their dominance through both seasons.
After a tight divisional final, the Los Angeles Dodgers returned to the World Series Championship to take on the Toronto Blue Jays. The series is played best of seven, with the location switching between both competing teams’ home fields.
The first two games were split 1-1, with anticipation building leading up to game three. Fans walked into Dodger Stadium expecting a battle on the field, but not one that lasted almost 7 hours. The game ended 6-5 in 18 innings after Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman hit a solo home run to center field.
The Blue Jays responded strongly to the long match-up by taking games four and five in LA, sending the series back to Toronto. The Dodgers then took game six 3-1 and forced a game seven. Game seven is seen as one of the greatest moments in sports. A do-or-die event filled with extreme talent and emotion, and game seven did not disappoint.
The Blue Jays went up 3-0 early in the 3rd inning, but were unable to hold on as the Dodgers tied the game at 4-4 in the 9th. The 10th inning went quickly with both teams unable to score. In the 11th inning, the Dodgers jumped on top after Will Smith hit a home run to left field.
Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto closed out the game with a double play, leading the Dodgers to their ninth World Series championship. Yamamoto was later named the World Series’ most valuable player after his closing performance in game 7, along with his starts earlier in the series.
The Dodgers became the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles on the road since the Reds in 1975 and 1976. The Dodgers have dominated all year, and there are no signs of slowing down. This looks to be the beginning of the Dodgers’ dynasty in the MLB.
