Starting a New Dynasty: Chiefs Develop a New Beginning?

Patrick Mahomes hugs Mecole Hardman in the end zone after throwing the winning touchdown of Super Bowl 58 on February 11th.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in a row. The game ended with a touchdown to Mecole Hardman in the final minute of overtime.

During a post-game interview, Mahomes was asked if this was the start of a Chiefs dynasty.

Mahomes responded: “It’s the start of one. We are not done…We’ve got a young team, we’re going to keep this thing going.” If the Chiefs were to win the 2024-2025 Super Bowl, they would be the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowl titles in a row.

It seems ironic that the Chief’s dynasty would begin just a year after the end of the Belichick/Brady dynasty. There are multiple theories as to why the NFL would want to continue or begin a dynasty. Many believe it is to keep people hate-watching. Some may choose to not watch the Super Bowl because their team isn’t in it or they believe the teams that did make the game don’t deserve it.

There is a large group of people that will watch the game for one of the teams to lose. Maintaining the Chief’s winning streak could impact the profit the NFL makes off the next football season.

The only remaining question is, “s there a quarterback that can beat playoff Mahomes? Only two players have done it: Tom Brady and Joe Burrow. After the game, many people have started a comparison between Mahomes and Brady at this point in each of their careers. In just 18 games, Mahomes has 5,135 passing yards and almost double the passing touchdowns as Brady. However, Brady is now out of the equation after the announcement of his retirement in early 2023.

Joe Burrow beat Mahomes in the AFC Championship of Super Bowl LVI and is the only active quarterback to have success against the Chiefs. If the Bengals remain healthy, they are a strong contender to dethrone Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Mahomes stated: “I want three. No one ever got three.” The Chiefs Intentions for the 2024-2025 season are clear. Mahomes has won 3 Super Bowls in just 7 seasons and it seems he has become unstoppable once entering the postseason.

If the Chiefs were to win this upcoming season, their dynasty would officially start, despite the controversy tied to this team. So, will the Chiefs make history or is there a team that can put a stop to a potential dynasty?
