Over the long weekend, the wrestling birds attended state. Boys wrestling competed on February 15 and 16, while the girls competed on February 17.
Senior Zach Russ said: “I was a bit disappointed that I did not place but I was happy that I pinned two kids at the state tournament.” For Russ, this was his last match so there is nothing he feels like he needs to improve.
Freshman Emma Hood placed fifth at state. Hood said, “I feel pretty good about my performance, I was a bit disappointed but I’m only a freshman.” Hood also expressed the areas of which she would like to improve. “I would like to improve my skills all around.”
Senior Kristan Heilman placed 1st, Sophomore Laila Pinkston placed 2nd, Freshman Emma Hood placed 5th, Junior Travis Votel placed 3rd, Senior Rilen Pinkston placed 1st, and Senior Will Gallagher placed 3rd.
