Highlands basketball takes on NCC
Last night at 6:00 p.m., Highlands Varsity Boys basketball team took on the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds in their first District game of the season.
The Birds, while starting out slow, allowed the Breds to keep up for most of the game making the score end very close. According to most of the team members, it was“closer than it should’ve been.”
The final score of the game ended in a 57-53 win for the Birds who now advance to their next District game of the year.
The Birds as of now are 20-10 and look to increase their number of wins in the following District games.
This Thursday (February 21st) at 7:00 p.m. the Birds will face off against the Newport Wildcats at Newport Central Catholic’s gym, hopefully looking to then move on to the finals and championship.
Though earlier in the season Newport dominated the Birds in all quarters of the game, the Birds want to go into the game “with a new and surprising strategy.”
With the Wildcat’s current record of 23-8, the Birds look to make that a 23-4 record this Thursday night.
