Communities Celebrate Mother’s Day

Categories:

Mother’s Day, the day to appreciate the moms in one’s life, is commonly celebrated with all the mothers in a person’s family, honoring their hard work and love. This day is widely celebrated for many, though the history may not be as known as the holiday is.

Mother’s Day is a United States celebrated holiday, taking place on the second Sunday of May. According to the Smithsonian American Women’s History museum, Anna Jarvis founded this day in 1908 to honor her mother’s legacy and the countless sacrifices mothers make. After some time, Mother’s Day was made an official national holiday in 1914 when Jarvis promoted it as a day of gratitude.

Decades later, this day is still celebrated among most families in the United States. The time, gifts and love that is shared on Mother’s Day is one that will forever be remembered.

Mother’s Day was celebrated on May 10, 2026, with students and faculty going above and beyond to share the love to their moms.

“I went to the cheesecake factory for lunch and Skyline for dinner. We got 7 Brew and went to the mall to let my mom pick out whatever she wanted,” Hope Barton (10) said.

Having a day to go out, have good food and shop is definitely what any mom deserves. Barton (10) has shown so much love for her mother, expressing her full gratitude for her mom and other moms out there.

“Moms do so much for us and are our biggest supporters. This is a day where we can show our love for our moms in many ways and be able to celebrate them,” Barton (10) said.

Like Anna Jarvis, Barton (10) took this day to honor her own mom for the support, love and sacrifice she has brought to Barton (10) and her family.

Although the appreciation is not over yet, Addyson Kent (12) expresses her love and appreciation for her own mother and grandmother through quality time and a couple gifts.

“It’s important to show love and appreciation to the women who gave us life. I got my mom some gifts, and got the chance to go to my grandparent’s house,” Kent (12) said.

Kent (12) said it perfectly, showing love and appreciation to the women who gave it all for generations to come.

Though planned by a woman in 1908, trying to honor her mother, those today still celebrate this remarkable holiday. A day of dedication towards all mothers, is a day all mothers deserve. 118 years later, and gratitude is still in the air when Mother’s Day rolls around.
