Women continue to impact history

Categories:

Women’s History Month is crucial for showcasing and representing the women who have made a significant impact in the world. Nevertheless, March isn’t specific to the honorable and famous women, but to all women.

March hasn’t always been known as the month to celebrate women. For instance, it grew out of International Women’s Week, with women only being honored for one single week. However, in 1987, congress passed a public law designating March as ‘Women’s History Month.’

Additionally, Malala Yousafzai (born July 12, 1997) is a Pakistani activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Yousafzai is known for fighting for girls’ education and human rights. After surviving an assassination attempt in 2012, she became a global phenomenon, representing resilience for women around the world. Yousafzai opened doors of educational equality for women and still has a significant impact.

According to the National Women’s History Alliance, the 2026 Women’s History Month theme is women shaping a sustainable future. Currently, women in America have the same rights as men in America and have earned the respect they deserve. Yet, challenges still exist, such as the pay gap and leadership representation. Even so, it’s certain that women have secured their place in society.

It is also important to note the more complementary women who have changed the world. One example is Alex Morgan, a now-retired female soccer athlete on the U.S Women’s Soccer team. Morgan was essential in elevating the pay, visibility, and treatment in soccer for women. Also, Morgan inspired young girls around the world, vocalizing that they can do anything they put their mind to. This gave hope to young girls globally.

In summary, remembering the history and evolution of women’s rights is crucial in sustaining a powerful sense of what being a woman truly means.
