As the snow begins to fall, Christmas lights start going up around homes, and as the temperature drops, more and more fun activities open up in Fort Thomas. There are countless fun things people can do, and sometimes leaving home isn’t needed. It’s all exciting, especially with friends and family.
Winter has always been an exhilarating season to have fun with loved ones. The snow, the lights, the fires, and just about everything about winter is great, amazing, and cherished across the world.
Addison Traylor (12) shares a couple of her top favorite activities in the winter season.
“My favorite thing to do, really, is to hang out with friends. I love to hang out with my family and go out to dinner with them,” Traylor (12) said.
It’s pretty hard to stay active when it’s freezing outside, but there are still many ways. English teacher Brady Dowling explains how students can stay active despite the freezing temperatures.
“I think you have to find ways to be active inside, whether that be going to the gym or playing basketball inside somewhere, but I think people also need to not be afraid to go outside. Just put on a coat and go be cold,” Dowling said.
Traylor shares her personal purpose of winter.
“Feels like it was when I was a kid again, especially with holidays, and being with your friends and family,” Traylor (12) said.
Some adults feel lost during winter, not knowing what they should do to have fun, since many activities are now closed off. Dowling has one tradition that many share in common.
“I’ve really gotten to enjoy skiing lately. My family and I started 2 years ago, we started getting Perfect North passes, and we’ve really enjoyed that,” Dowling said.
Many young children are amazed at Santa Claus. Their jaws would drop to the ground if they were to see him in real life. Traylor knows of a fun event in Fort Thomas that may make that dream a reality.
“I think there’s a Santa house at Moyer Elementary School that people take their kids to sometimes,” Traylor (12) said.
Many children love the snow, but sometimes they are stuck inside due to the cold. There are a few activities that don’t require many layers of clothes.
“We try to plan out a lot of activities for our kids during winter break so they don’t feel trapped inside, whether that’d be going skiing or going ice skating or even just a winter hike or playing in the snow. Just something to keep them active,” Dowling said.
There are so many activities or events, small or big, that are so fun. These events bring joy to people’s hearts and smiles to their faces.
“Make sure you’re active, find a way to be active and you won’t be bored,” Dowling said.
