The softball team finishes off their game with a score of 9-4, leading to a win against Connor.

On May 22, the Highlands High School girl’s softball team defeated the Connor High School Cougars 9-4. Even though the sun was scorching, the girls never let their guard down, scoring a win in five innings.

In the first inning, the girls managed to get an early lead of 1-0, not letting their opponents score.

Even though playing the game in the hot sun was difficult, the girls still managed to keep up the good work.

Freshman Bailey Markus commented on how she felt during the game, stating, “[We] started off a little shaky but once we made some adjustments we started to play as a team. And came out on top!”

In the second inning, the girls scored three more runs, making the score 4-0 and staying on guard.

Connor began to score some points in the third inning, although Highlands managed to score another point.

In the fourth inning, the score of 5-4 was incredibly close with Connor trailing Highlands by only one point.

However, the last inning was when the Birds scored the highest, scoring another four points and leaving their opponent in the dust, winning the game 9-4.

Junior Hailey Parks stated how she felt winning against Connor, commenting. “Winning against Connor on Saturday was exciting considering they just beat Dixie who we had lost to earlier in the season. We are excited to begin Districts this weekend!”

Thanks to the persistence of the players, the softball team has done a great job in their season so far.
