The Indiana Hoosiers upset the Ohio State Buckeyes

Categories:

On Saturday, Dec. 6, Ohio State and Indiana faced off in the Big Ten Championship. Both teams had a perfect 12-0 record heading into the game; Ohio State ranked  number one and Indiana number two in the nation. The Indiana Hoosiers went on to pull off an unexpected upset against the Ohio State Buckeyes over the Ohio State Buckeyes with a score of 13-10.

On paper, Ohio State was favored to win by 4.5 points, but many people actually thought the game would be very balanced.

“I don’t think it was that big of an upset at all. It may be on paper because you have a traditional powerhouse versus a non-traditional powerhouse, but it was very clear talent-wise, it was very even,” English teacher Brady Dowling said.

Many fans thought that the coaching and play-calling during the game were poor, leading to the loss for Ohio State.

“The playcalling was just not there at all for offense. Ohio State kept throwing the ball when they didn’t need to. They kept calling bad plays the whole time in the red zone. They were also just trying too much. I feel like sometimes it just got out of hand,” Ohio State Fan Carson Hoeh (10) said.

Following the game, the momentum heading into the playoffs may have also changed in many positive ways for both teams.

“I think it actually helps both teams. I think it gives Ohio State a reality check that they can be beaten. There are a lot of people that felt like they couldn’t. So I think in that way it will motivate them. And I think it helps Indiana because it shows that they really can beat the best and they’re one of the best teams in the country,” Dowling said.

This game ended Ohio State’s impressive 30-game win streak against Indiana and could give other schools hope that their dream of a championship is still alive.
