Boys basketball crushes Newport 80-57

Categories:

The boys’ varsity basketball team faced off against Newport High School on Friday, Feb. 6. The boys have had a subtle rivalry with Newport, with the birds struggling to win since 2023. Since the game was at Newport, the tension was high, but the boys dominated, winning 80-57.

“I think we did exactly what we were supposed to do. We played as a team, and we took care of business,” Owen Ebert (12) said.

Tayden Lorenzen (11), named “Player of the game,” led the team with 23 points and 8 rebounds.

“It felt pretty good. As long as we got the ball inside the paint, we knew we were going to have a big advantage,” Lorenzen said.

Ebert (12) followed with 13 points, Charlie Messmer (12) had 13 points, and Nathan Rickard (12) had 8 points. Rickard also dominated the boards with 4 rebounds, and Amil Wimzie (8) and Cale Harris (11) both had 3 rebounds.

The boys will play Lloyd Memorial high school at home on Monday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 pm.
