As the second quarter wraps up, beautiful melodies from the strings room can be heard throughout the halls of Highlands High School (HHS). The program is preparing for its concert on December 5 to ensure a memorable night for the entire community.
Strings concerts here at HHS are known for the hardworking students and the amazing work they put into the concerts. At the end of the first semester, this concert will feature many different Christmas pieces such as “Christmas Eve Sarajevo” and a three-movement symphonia by Mendocino.
All of the musicians in the show are putting in the effort to make this concert a success.
Their program ranges from beginner to advanced musicians, but all come together to create one incredible show filled with classical music and string instruments.
Students can be found working hard in class to make parts in the songs flawless and correcting little mistakes before the big show. The pieces they put out every quarter take an immense amount of practice and class time to polish and perfect as a whole.
“We are running through our pieces, fixing small parts where we need to work on them,” Adrianna McCafferty (9) said.
The students are also working as individuals, as they focus on improving their skills during the days leading up to the concert. They are dedicating time both in and outside of the classroom to their instrument.
“I practice a lot at home, making sure I know my part and everyone else’s parts as well,” Noah Huber (12) said.
The concert will be especially different with the inclusion of holiday spirit. Making this a reminder that the holidays can bring everyone together through music.
For many of these students, this is a time for them to shine and show off all of the hard work they have been putting into their music. With each student giving it their all, the upcoming Christmas strings concert is sure to be a harmonious ending to the second quarter.
