The traditional “senior skip day” is coming up at Highlands High School. Senior Skip Day is when all the seniors come together and agree on a day to skip school. Not all schools allow their seniors to participate in this day. If the students decided to, there would be some consequences, such as detention or not being able to walk at graduation.

Some of the consequences could seem prominent for only skipping a day of school, but they can also be fair. Students have to decide if they want to take the risk of getting disciplined.

This year, seniors are beyond excited to participate because it has become a tradition that only seniors can participate.

Highlands Alumni Jonah Listerman said: “For senior skip day, my friends and I went to Red River Gorge and hiked around. My favorite part was probably the rope swing we found, and we swang over the water into this island of rocks. It was a lot of fun!”

As you can tell, the students who decide to participate enjoy spending time with their friends.

Some students may be stuck and need help figuring out what to do for senior skip day.

If you want to take part in senior skip day, spend the day doing something exciting. Missing a day of school to sit at your house is no fun; make some time for friends and family. Try something new!

Senior Kyle Schnell said: “I think it’s fun for students but for not teachers. It should be continued because we work so hard and deserve a day off.”

When asking current high school seniors if they are participating, many people said they were. Students said they would hang out with friends, go places, and make the most of the day.

You are only a senior once, so make the most of your senior year. Memories are a thing to have and to hold. Cherish, think of the memories you’ll make from your senior year.

If you are thinking about participating, do it! As we all know, you can only be a senior once. Have fun with it!
