The Cincinnati Reds have been off to an extremely good start in the 206 MLB season. According to the MLB, the Reds have a 19-10 record, tied with the third-best record in the league. This is the best start the Reds have had for a season since 2006.
There have been some major role players on the team who have heavily contributed to the recent success. The Red’s pitching staff has been strong, being ranked seventh in the league with a 3.77 ERA. Other major players have been Rookie Sal Stewart and All-Star Elly De La Cruz.
“I think the biggest reason the Reds have been hot is Sal Stewart because of his high baseball IQ. He’s hitting about .300 and is leading the MLB in RBIs, which has really contributed to our success,” Layton Reisenbeck (10) said.
As of April 29, the Reds are 9-7 at home and 10-3 on opponents’ fields. For the National League Central, the Reds are number one.
Fans wonder whether the Reds will be able to maintain this level of performance as the season progresses. Due to injury and the team’s history, there are some beliefs that they might not keep up with the competition.
“I think they are gonna stay hot because their pitching has been on fire, and they are still missing their two best pitchers in Hunter Greene and Andrew Abbott. I think the rest of the team will also start to get their bats hot, so I think it will be a very successful season,” Kai Anderson (11) said.
Some fans have a hopeful feeling that the Reds could make a successful run in the playoffs, and possibly even win the World Series this year. However, others believe they might not even end up making the playoffs.
“I think the Reds are gonna win it all this year. With the season they’re putting together, the energy they have, and the chemistry they have there isn’t much that will stop them from having a great season,” Quintin Tomlin (10) said.
Some fans also think they won’t even make the playoffs this season. Some speculate that they could start to decline and miss the playoffs entirely.
“I don’t think they will even make the playoffs this year. They always start off pretty good, but at the end of the season they fall off a bit,” Kate Class (10) said.
With people not knowing how the Reds will do the rest of the season there are still mixed opinions about the Reds. The Reds have seen more and more families coming to more of the games because of their winning streak.
“I have been to a few games this year and I have noticed more and more families coming to the games this year than last year,” Quentin Tomlin (10) said.
All in all, the Reds have had a great season so far, but fans are curious to see how they will keep up with the rest of the league throughout the rest of the season.
