Highlands boys’ tennis team defeats Pendleton County 6–0 in season opener

The boys’ tennis team opened its season with a win against Pendleton County last Thursday, March 12. 

Highlands won every match, solidifying their 6-0 win against the Wildcats. 

Dylan Fortner (10) started at the first singles position and won his match 6-0, 6-0. Josh DeSylva (12) was the second singles player. He also won his match 6-0, 6-0.

There were four doubles teams that played as well. Both Daniel Beasey (12), with his partner Lukesh Muzumdar (10), and Hayden Newton (12), with his partner Matthew Graham (12), won their matches 6-0, 6-0. 

Zachary Schulte (10) and Findley Byers (10) won their match 6-1, 6-0. Henry Hosea (10) and Ethan Lang (10) defeat their opponents 6-0, 6-1.

Highlands will take on Holy Cross at home this Wednesday, March 18, with the match set to begin at 3:45 p.m.

Ava Muzumdar is a senior this year at Highlands. This is her third year in the publications program, and she is a copy editor. Outside of journalism, she enjoys playing volleyball, listening to music, and hanging out with her friends. She is the VP of Competitive Events for FCCLA, founder of the Pickleball Club, and a part of the National Honor Society. Muzumdar is a part of the Varsity Volleyball and Tennis Teams at Highlands and is a captain for both. Her goals for after graduation are to go to The Ohio State University and study psychology or marketing.

Reese Wilkens is a senior at Highlands and is participating in the journalism program for the first time this year. She has grown up playing soccer in Fort Thomas, starting with the Mustangs at Moyer Elementary and now representing Highlands. Next year, she will continue her soccer career at Thomas More University. Reese joined journalism to explore the graphic design and media aspects of the field, which align with her future goals in business and marketing. She is passionate about learning, researching current events, and engaging in meaningful political discussions.
