Girls basketball season ends with heartache 48-31

Categories:

Highlands varsity girls played Notre Dame on Tuesday, March 3, at Truist Arena at Northern Kentucky University. The birds unfortunately lost 48-31 in the semi-finals.

Offensively, Highlands made 13 field goals on 40 attempts, shooting at 32.5%. The girls also made 3 three pointers out of 15 attempts, shooting threes at 20%.

At the free throw line, Bailey Richey (9) went 2-for-2, which is 100%. The team also had a total of 12 rebounds.

“I felt a bit nervous going to the free throw line because we were losing and I had to make them count, but I was also confident in myself because I made most of my free throws the game before,” Richey said.

Solu Nzekwu (8) led Highlands with 13 points, Richey followed up with 6 points, and Katie Bucher (12) followed with 5 points.

The future of the girls’ basketball program depends on the work and determination of the girls who are coming up in the program.

“I would tell underclassmen to always give 100% effort. You never know when your season’s gonna end, so just always put 100% effort in everything you do, whether it’s on the court, off the court,” Bucher said.

Although the birds fought hard, this loss unfortunately ends their season.
