The birds destroy Dayton in the 36 District Tournament 70-10

Highlands’ varsity girls played Dayton on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Bena Flora gymnasium. The birds won 70-10, winning the first round of the 36 District Tournament. 

Offensively, Highlands made 30 total field goals on 62 attempts, shooting at 48.4%. The birds also made 6 three-pointers out of 19 attempts, which ended in 31.6%. 

At the free throw line, Highlands went 4-for-6, which is 66.7%. The team also had a total of 33 rebounds.   

Kaylee Mills (12) led Highlands with 29 points, while Maddy Lickert (11) and Lucca Smith (7) followed with 8 points.

Avery Barber (12) finished with 6 points, and Solu Nzekwu (8) finished with 5 points. 

The Highlands’ varsity team will prepare for their next game on Thursday, Feb. 26, against Newport Central Catholic at the Bena Flora gymnasium for round two of the district tournament, with tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
