Girls’ varsity basketball falls to Ryle 66-49

Ryle High School earned a 66-49 victory over Highlands on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

The team had 24 rebounds. Maddy Lickert (11) had a total of five rebounds, and not far behind were Katie Bucher (12) and Gabby Neufarth (10) with four rebounds.

Highlands made 57.1% of their free-throw shots. With Bucher attempting four and making three, and not far behind, Kaylee Mills (12), attempting two and making one. 

On 3-point field goals, Highlands made a 34.7% attempt rate. Neufarth made 50% of her shots, attempting two and making one. Lickert made 25% of her shots, attempting four and making one. Mills made 33.3% of her attempted shots, attempting three and successfully making one. 

On 2-point and 3-point field goals, the team had a 36.2% rate. With Mills going nine for 13, Lickert going one for two, and Neufarth going two for five. Leaving the game with the highest field goal rates. 

The team finished the game with seven free throws attempted and four free throws scored.

Highlands takes on Lloyd Memorial High School at Lloyd on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7:30.

Ellie Thornton is a freshman at Highlands and has been a part of the Fort Thomas school system since kindergarten at Johnson Elementary. She enjoys photography, baking, and hanging out with friends. She is also a member of the community service FCCLA group. This is Ellie’s first year taking journalism, and she hopes to take it throughout her high school career. She has always had a passion for photography and writing, and is very excited to see where journalism can take her in the future.
