Birds beat Campbell County 83-79 at Carespring Classic

Highlands’ varsity boys played Campbell County on Sunday, Feb. 1, at Truist Arena on the campus of Northern Kentucky University. The game went into overtime after being tied at the end of regulation, and Highlands won 83–79.

Offensively, Highlands’ made 27 total field goals on 69 attempts shooting at 39.1%. The birds also had 19 two-point field goals and eight three-pointers which ended in 40%. At the free throw line, Highlands went 21-for-30 which is 70%. The team also had a total of 26 rebounds.   

Tayden Lorenzen (11) led Highlands with 23 points, while Owen Ebert (12) added 14 points, and Nathan Rickard (12) and Vinny Listerman (12) followed, each scoring 13 points.

JP Shaffer (12) finished with nine points, Amil Wimzie (8) had six, and Charlie Messmer (12) added five points.

Highlands’ varsity will prepare for their next game on Friday, Feb. 6, against Newport at Newport High School with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Andrea Suarez Espinosa is a sophomore at Highlands High School. She is on the Track and Field team and enjoys spending most of her time with family and friends. Andrea spends a lot of time investing in her relationship with God through her Christian community and is involved in Highlands Navigators. She has been in publications for 2 years and keeps going for her interest in photography. She would aspire to keep taking photography more seriously in the coming years at Highlands.

Audrina Trauth is a junior this year at Highlands High School, and it is her third year in the publication program. She is one of the four photo assistants shooting football, volleyball, cheer, dance, and many other games and events. She is interested in going to college for either criminal justice, criminology, or forensic science. She would like to pursue photography as a side job to earn extra money in college. She is looking to join the track team this year and make new friends in the program.
