Lady birds soar through Regional qualifying

Categories:

On Jan. 29, the Highlands’ girls team participated in the preliminary round of the regional championship. After dominating at their conference championship, the birds had high hopes for their performance at this meet.

To kick off the meet, the girls placed third in the 200 medley relay. They followed this race with impressive teamwork in the 400 freestyle relay, placing second, and the 200 freestyle relay, qualifying as the top spot with a team of Ragan Moore (12), Ellie Niese (11), Vivian Winkler (9), and Stella Kendon (8).

There are also many outstanding individual performances in addition to the team’s collaboration in these events.

Moore is headed into finals seeded first in the 50 yard freestyle and second in the 100 yard freestyle. She’s followed by Taryn Ripley (9), who qualified fourth in both her 500 yard freestyle and her 100 yard breaststroke.

The lady birds started the meet off strong with a good preliminary session. Many swimmers advanced to finals, which begin on Jan. 31 at 1:30 p.m.
