Birds make waves at the Scott Eagle Classic

The Highlands swim team competed at the Scott Invite on January 10th. The Bluebirds came out on top with first place in the men’s, women’s, and combined categories. 

The top highlights of the meet on the girls’ side were wins by Taryn Ripley (9) in the 500 free and Ragan Moore (12) in the 100 free. The girls also swept the competition in the relays with Taryn Ripley (9), Ellie Niese (11), Ella Kate Reynolds (9), Keira Kobida (11), and Ragan Moore (12).

“I thought our team did really well, and this meet prepared us well for regionals,” said Kobida.

On the boys’ side, Luke Deegan (11) won both the 100 backstroke and 200 IM, Noah Gracey (12) won the 100 Fly, and Chase Pawsat (12) won the 500 free. As well, the boys won the 200 Medley and 400 Free relay with Luke Deegan (11), Ryan Schaber (11), Noah Gracey (12), Matthew Meyers (12), Robbie Koester (12), and Hunter Rohlfer (9).

Luke Deegan is a junior at Highlands High School. This is his third year in the journalism program. Luke was a photo assistant last year and is now a photo editor. Luke does a lot of sports photography as well as portraits. Outside of school, Luke swims competitively and enjoys watching crime TV.

Keira Kobida is a junior in high school, and has been part of the publications program for one year. She enjoys taking photos at both sporting and school events. Outside of school, Keira enjoys watching TV and hanging out with friends. She swims competitively for Highland’s varsity team, as well as for club swimming.

Taryn Ripley is a freshman at Highlands and has been in the journalism program for one year. She swims competitively for the Highlands varsity team and club. She enjoys spending time with family, watching movies, doing art, and hanging out with friends. She is looking forward to seeing what the rest of the year will bring in Journalism.
