The Highlands swim team had a clean sweep the first weekend of January against Dixie, Beechwood, and Ryle when competing at Scott. Both boys and girls placed first overall and Highlands had a combined overall win. The day started with the dive team where Addison Tinkler placed second by only three points.

The girl’s swim team participated in multiple events on Saturday, placing top ten in most. The girl’s team placed first overall, led by junior Sarah Jones, sophomore Ragan Moore, and freshman Keira Kobida. All swimmers placed first in their events. Jones won both the 200 free and 100 back while Moore took the 50 and 500 free. Kobida followed with a win in the 100 freestyle.

Boys followed suit placing first overall in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay. They also had many representatives placing first across the board including senior Jude Eckerle, sophomore Noah Gracy, Griffin Barlow, Luke Deegan, and freshman Chanuthmi Abeysinghe. Barlow took the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Abeysinghe won the 50 as well as the 100 free. There were many other showings by other swimmers in the top 10 throughout the day.

This was an exceptional performance from all swimmers and a great start to the season. The Highlands swim team will have a meeting almost every week. As they continue to compete, the team works to improve their strength and skill throughout the season.
