Disaster! the musical takes the stage

Categories:

Over the last weekend of March, Highlands Theater performed the musical “Disaster!” This musical is the final theater performance of the school year.

“Disaster!” is a jukebox musical, meaning that it incorporates songs written by different musical artists. With “Disaster!” being set in the 70’s, all songs in the musical are popular songs that were written during this time.

There had been 11 main cast members for the musical, with nearly all of the main cast getting a solo or duet. In Disaster!, the audience follows along with all of the main characters and their different stories.

During Act 1 of “Disaster!,” the cast members are entering the casino cruise ship, and a disaster expert soon finds out that there will be a major earthquake on the cruise with all of the people on it. While the disaster expert tries to find a way to solve a problem, the cruise ship owner is trying to find a way to bring the most people on the cruise to gamble, allowing him to earn money. There is also a nun on the ship battling her past struggles with gambling, an elderly couple trying to cherish their time together, and a past relationship that ended with her not showing up at the altar.

Throughout Act 2, many different disasters happen to each of the characters, including death, shark attacks, and an earthquake.

The next theater event will be the end-of-year theater banquet, which will announce the shows for the next school year on Friday, May 15, 2026.
