The Grammy Awards for 2025 are just around the corner, and fans around Highlands High School eagerly await the results in February. The nominations came out on November 8th, 2024 and many conversations have been sparked from them.
The Grammys are an award show for music and artists. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences presents these awards annually.
Some of the most popular categories in the Grammys include, “Album of the Year,” and “Song of the Year,” with controversies over these categories almost every year. “Album of the Year,” will be a tough category this year with many top artists competing for the spot like Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift, and Beyonce.
“I think album of the year is gonna be ‘Short N’ Sweet’ by Sabrina Carpenter, but I want it to be ‘brat’ Charli XCX,” Dee Robinson (11) said.
The first Grammy Award show was on May 4, 1959. For the category “Song of the Year,” the winner was Domenico Modugno, an Italian singer, and actor for his song Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu. The other artists who were nominated were Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Gene Autry, Johnny Mercer, Henry Mancini, and André Previn.
As this category continues to be popular throughout the years, many people speculate who will take home the award. This year’s most popular nominations include Fortnight by Taylor Swift, Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish, Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar, Good Luck, Babe!, and Please, Please, Please by Sabrina Carpenter. Many HHS students are rooting for Lamar’s song this year.
“I think Not Like Us is gonna win song of the year, it’s been a hit throughout the entire year and is still playing on radios today,” Walker Hunt (10) said.
The Grammys is a fun way to reward people who deserve to be recognized for their hard work. Make sure to watch the Grammys this year on February 4, 2024, at 8:00 PM.
