The past few weeks at Highlands, students have been picking out classes for the 2024-2025 school year. As students prepare for their next year, there are many options to pick from for classes.

Next year, early bird options for students are AP World, AP Lang, and AP Lit. Early bird is a seventh course option the hour before school starts. Many students do early bird classes if they want an extra elective.

Sophomore Cydni Martin said: “I am taking AP Lang next year as my early bird. I’m taking early bird in order to have an extra elective.”

Electives are what differentiates students from each other. Some popular electives in the past years have been Journalism, Movie Appreciation, AP Environmental Science, and Forensics.

Freshman Luke Deegan: “I plan on taking Publications and Spanish 2.”

As students get to the end of scheduling, they get to pick between AP and regular placement classes. Teachers are able to recommend students for AP, but that doesn’t mean they have to take it.

English teacher Lauren Peterson said: “If they have a passion for authentic learning and personal growth, I feel like having them continue on with their AP courses is a smart choice.”

Enjoying picking out classes for next year. Good luck Birds!
