On Wednesday October 9th, the Highlands High School girl’s varsity soccer team won against the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds in the 36th District Tournament with a final score of 5 to 1, becoming the overall champions in the District.

The 36th district is made up of Bellevue High School, Dayton High School, Highlands High School, Newport High School, and Newport Central Catholic High School. The only way to make it to the regional tournament, and eventually state, a team must either win the district tournament or be runner up. This win against NCC brings the Bluebirds one step closer to Regionals.

The game started with sophomore Faith Broering scoring the first goal of the night. Juniors Greta Noble, Jordan Stuempel, sophomore Chloe Bramble, and senior Maria Broering followed up with each scoring goals respectively.

Not only did the Bluebirds score well as a team, but individuals got recognized for their stunning efforts.  Sophomore Jade Rehburger was recognized and added to the District All-Tournament team. Sophomore Chloe Bramble and Senior Rylee Thomas were named the district tournaments Most Outstanding Player.

The Bluebirds’ next game will be on Monday, October 14th at 7 pm at home. Their opponent will be determined on Saturday night.
