Bluebirds fall to Colonels in ‘Pink Out’ game
On Friday, October 12, Covington Catholic Colonels defeated the Bluebirds 14-21. The Birds started out strong and were up 7-0 in the first quarter, but started to fall back later in the second quarter half ending the first half with a score of 7-14, Covington Catholic. In the next half, the Birds fell further behind and ended up losing the game.
In the Bluebirds’ attempt to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Research (Chicks for Chucks), they succeeded with a final and matched amount of $2,161.54. Principal Matt Bertasso and Athletic Director Kevin Nieporte did so by having T-shirt sales as well as orchestrating a Community Pep Rally Thursday night before the game. They, along with the support of the students and fellow members of the community, were able to further help those others in search for answers.
Nieporte stated, “I thought it was an excellent opportunity for our students to be empathetic collaborates and at the same time help out cancer researchers.”
This helping hand allowed the opportunity for every individual in Fort Thomas and even some from “CovCath Nation” to help support those in need.
This Friday, October 19, at 7 pm the birds will kickoff again against their next opponent, Greenwood High School. The Ozone will be flooded with white; while on the field before-hand, HHS will announce and Crown their Homecoming Court King and Queen for the 2018-2019 school year.
