As many know, the Cincinnati Reds are in a race for the final wild card spot for the National League. The last time the Reds made the playoffs was in 2020, when the MLB had an extended playoff bracket. The last time they made the playoffs during a full season was in 2013. Both of those years, they ended up losing their first series.
The Reds are currently 80-78, just behind the New York Mets (81-77) for the wild card spot. There have also been a couple of other teams on the rise that are now in contention. The Arizona Diamondbacks are currently tied with the Reds with a record of 80-78. The Miami Marlins are also in contention, although they will have to win every game remaining to have a chance.
On Wednesday, September 24, the Reds played a crucial game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This made them go down 0-2 in the three-game series, which is an absolute must-win series for the Reds as they are taking on the Milwaukee Brewers, who currently have the best record in the MLB.
If the Reds can win four of their next five games, have the Mets lose their final game against the Chicago Cubs, and get swept by the Marlins, and have the Diamondbacks lose, they may make the playoffs. The Reds now have a 19.7% chance of making the playoffs.
