On September 6, the marching band performed at Beechwood High School for their first competition. In preliminaries, the band competed in Class 3A, where they swept the awards, achieving outstanding percussion, outstanding music, outstanding visual, and outstanding overall effect. The band came in first place at prelims. In finals, the band went up against three 5A bands, coming in fourth place with a final score of 69.35. The bandbirds are extremely proud of how well they did at their first competition. Their next competition is on September 20 at Ryle High School. The marching band was also given the opportunity to perform at Universal Studios, the band travels down to Florida on October 2 and they stay till the 6. They are expected to do even better at their later competitions.

Edy Hobson is a sophomore at Highlands. She is going into her second year of publications and is a copy editor this year. She decided to join journalism in her freshman year because she loves to write. She loves to hang out with her friends. She plays varsity volleyball in the fall, and in the spring she plays club volleyball. Her inspiration for volleyball is Andi Jackson. She would like to continue with journalism in college.
