On Sunday, February 25, FC Cincinnati kicked off the MLS season with an opening game against Toronto FC. The game score ended with a draw of 0-0 between the two teams.
FC Cincinnati ended their last season in the Eastern Conference having the number one standing in the league. With an overall 20 wins, 5 losses, 9 draws, and 69 points total. This left Cincinnati first in the MLS by the end of the 2023 season.
The game against Toronto started off with hopes high from the stands full of Cincinnati fans. All cheering loud whenever Luciano Acosta, FC Cincinnati team captain and midfielder, got a handle on the ball.
The game went back and forth, both getting a handle on the ball. Cincinnati took shots at Toronto’s goal, all getting deflected by their goalie Alex Bono.
Later on in the game, Bono had a yellow card called on him causing mocking cheers coming from Cincinnati fans in the stands.
Toronto had opportunities to score on Cincinnati, but all were deflected by talented Cincinnati goalie Roman Celentano. Celentano helped Cincinnati keep the score at a draw throughout the game.
Come halftime the probability of Cincinnati winning was still higher than Toronto’s. With their hopes still high Cincinnati fans were keeping the stands loud and alive. The spirits were particularly high for the beginning of the season, with many fans hopeful for the future of FC Cincinnati.
Soccer fan and freshman Ellie Rogiers said: “Since my family and I are avid FCC fans, we are super excited for the beginning of a new season.
Overall FC Cincinnati fans kept their energy high for the season opener game. The future of FC Cincinnati is looking good. Many fans are opinionated about the season.
Freshman Adalyn Armstrong Cattani said: “I think FCC will do pretty good in the following games and I am eager to see what happens throughout the season.”
FC Cincinnati has high expectations for the new season after their impressive season in 2023.
