On Sunday, December 11,  the Highlands High School Varsity Dance Team went to George Rogers Clark in Winchester for the KHSAA State Championship and placed 9th overall.

Senior Kayleigh Nicolaus said, “The team and I felt good about our performance! We put in a lot of hard work between regionals and state and it helped improve our routine a lot!”

This year the Highlands dance team is competing locally instead of hours away.

Sophomore Addy Orme said, “From now on,  we are competing locally so I feel like we will have a lot more time to really improve. We know what we need to do to get to work. Up until nationals we really are going to work hard and kick some butt around at the competitions.”

The team competed against about 52 other teams with their pom routine in the pom and hip-hop division.

Nicolaus said the team has some preparation they need to do before nationals, but everyone’s dedication is what is going to get them through the competition season.

“We have some preparation to do for nationals but I am really looking forward to competition season! The hard work and dedication this team puts into dance are what is going to help us this competition season!”
