The team huddles at the end of the game to discuss their win.

The sun is shining and the birds are chirping. As the breeze blows, the crowd cheers loud for their team. The smells from the concession stand take over the air when *crack* the batter swings and hits the ball. The teams are yelling in excitement while the girl runs the bases.

The Highlands Varsity Softball team went in with not-so-high expectations last night in a game against Boone County.

In the bottom of the first inning Sophomore Bailey Markus scored a home run bringing the score to 1-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Ladybirds were able to bring in another home run!

Despite their efforts throughout the game, Boone County was not able to score a singular run.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Eighth-grader Peyton Brown scored the third and final run of the game.

Due to the success of Highlands High Schools’ team, they were not obligated to play until the bottom of the seventh inning.

Senior Anna Greenwell said, “It was great to win against Boone, I think the team has this newfound sense of pride and confidence that will continue to help us win throughout the rest of the year”

The team played hard the score ended up being 3-0. The next at-home game is at 5:30 P.M. on May 12.
