On Saturday, January 22, the Boys Basketball Birds faced off against the Breathitt County Bobcats, coming out on top with an score of 86-68.

The first quarter was very back and forth between the two teams with the score being 26-23 going into the second quarter, making for a close beginning of the game.

Highlands went on a quick run in the middle of the second quarter and extended their lead to 36-27, forcing the Bobcats to call a timeout.

The Bluebirds kept this momentum to end the first half with a score of 49-37.

However, the third quarter was when Highlands extended their lead even more. In the third quarter, the Birds outscored the Bobcats 21-9, to end the quarter with a score of 70-48.

According to Boys Basketball Coach Kevin Listerman, the team is hoping to bring the same intensity and momentum into their next game.

“I thought we played very hard. We did a great job of sharing the basketball [with each player]. We knocked down shots and got back to playing at our pace so I was really pleased with a lot of the things that we did,” said Coach Listerman.

With this win, the boys now have a record of 13-6.

The Birds played again last night against the Bishop Brossart Mustangs.

Going into the game, Coach Listerman knew what they were going against and prepared at practice.

The boys played hard and well and came out on top with a score of 94-61.

The Boys Basketball Birds play next at 7 P.M. against Lou. Saint Xavier on January 28 at home court.
