Highlands Varsity Boys Tennis defeats Cooper, continuing the teams winning streak

Yesterday evening at Tower Park, the Highlands boys tennis team faced Cooper High School for a varsity team match. Per usual, the boys began with the coaches of each team announcing the player’s lineup and a sportsmanlike fist bump before heading to warm-ups.

Once the team finished their warm-ups with their opponents, the matches were ready to start.

The Birds’ singles and doubles teams started strong, winning their first sets quickly and diligently. Senior Peter Laskey lead the team, playing first singles, then Freshman Eli Hornsby following in the second singles spot.

While the third singles player, Sophomore Ben Schuh, played on the bottom quarts against his Cooper opponent. The first and second doubles teams hustled their matches on the third and fourth courts. Sophomore John Laskey and Freshman Eli Back took on first doubles with a final score of 6-1, 6-0. The second doubles court held Seniors Joss Finseth and Matthew Erickson, who had a clean sweep score of 6-0, 6-0.

Regarding the singles players, Sophomore Ben Schuh won his match against cooper 6-0, 6-0, Freshman Eli Hornsby won at second singles 6-0, 6-0, and Senior Peter Laskey finished his match on top with a final score of 6-1, 6-1.
Overall, the boys had a clean sweep against Cooper, maintaining their undefeated streak only three matches into the season.

After his match, John Laskey said, “Having the year off last year made this year more special because we’re all itching to play.”
