Michael B Jordan and Timothée Chalamet compete for the Best Actor Award

Categories:

The 2026 Oscar Awards were held on March 15, and many talented actors won for their roles in films and television shows. Timothée Chalamet was originally in the running for the Best Actor award for his titular role in “Marty Supreme,” but was overtaken by Michael B. Jordan for his role as twins Smoke and Stack in “Sinners.”

Other nominees for this award include Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, and Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent. All are very qualified, talented actors, but Timothée Chalamet and Michael B. Jordan were the leading competitors for this award.

“They both deserve the award for sure. I thought both movies were good. I liked Sinners more, so Michael B. Jordan deserved the award,” Dakota Nickell (11) said.

The best actor award is given to male actors for a leading role. Timothée Chalamet was in the running for a while and he thought he would win, as did the public, but Michael B. Jordan was following close behind in the running.

“Both were very qualified but I think Micheal B Jordan deserved it more, it was just a more interesting part he played,” Marlee Henry (10) said.

Timothée Chalamet played the leading role in Marty Supreme, a 2025 film following table tennis player Marty Mauser, who is loosely based on Marty Reisman, and his journey to becoming a world champion. Timothée Chalamet believed he would win the best actor award because of this role.

Timothée Chalamet’s role was nominated due to his emotional depth in his performance, as well as the intense physical training and transformation he dedicated to playing the role to the best of his ability.

“I liked the movie, but I think Michael B Jordan definitely deserved the award more than Timothée Chalamet,” Sarah Henson (11) said.

Michael B Jordan was nominated for his roles in Sinners, playing twins Elijah (Smoke) and Elias (Stack) Moore. The twins are World War I veterans who return to Mississippi to start a black-only bar. He won the Oscar for his roles, ultimately defeating Timothée Chalamet.

“Sinners was such a good movie, at first I didn’t even know the twins were both played by the same actor, he played them so well,” Parker Pope (10) said.

Michael B. Jordan’s ability to play two roles, especially twins, is difficult to pull off, but he did it very well. Many people, after watching Sinners, believed two different actors played the twins.

“It was definitely deserved, I mean, he played twins well enough to make people think it’s different actors. And it’s Michael B. Jordan, of course he won,” Kaitlyn Ryan (12) said.

Both Michael B. Jordan and Timothée Chalamet are very talented actors who deserve awards for their work. The popular opinion is that Jordan deserved the award more than Chalamet, even though both had award-worthy performances.
