“Zootopia 2” proves why it’s worth the wait

Categories:

Heading back to the city of Zootopia, “Zootopia 2” has made its way to the theaters as of Nov. 26, 2025. It felt nostalgic to come back to this franchise after 9 years since the first “Zootopia” movie was released in 2016.

As soon as we walked in, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, so we couldn’t imagine what it would be like in the theater itself. It was extremely crowded with adults, kids and even teenagers who were trying to relive their childhood. People dressed up in funny costumes of the main characters, mostly Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.

The overall plot of “Zootopia 2” consisted of Judy and Nick becoming official cop partners and their initial struggle. We followed their journey as they went through conflicts with each other and the cases they were assigned… or not assigned.

Reptiles and hidden reptile biomes were also introduced into the “Zootopia” franchise. We were surprised because we never realized that there were any animals left out, let alone an entire class of animals.

“Zootopia 2” also provided the history of “Zootopia” and how it came to be. The “villains” in the story were the Lynxleys, which was an influential family whose ancestors claimed to have designed Zootopia’s weather walls. The weather walls control the climate in each biome, so every animal can thrive in harmony. After they “caught” a snake biting another animal, all reptiles were banished from the city.

The movie starts with Judy and Nick attempting to solve a case on their own. During this, Judy discovers that reptiles may have returned to Zootopia after finding snake skin in the back of a van. This begins their mission to find the snake and find out why they returned to Zootopia.

They end up finding Gary De’Snake and learn that he is not there to harm anybody, but to find the original weather wall plans that the Lynxleys stole from his grandmother. Judy is determined to help the snake and risk her life for this mission while Nick believes that the case is not worth dying for. As they don’t see eye to eye, Judy and Nick begin to think that they are different and eventually get separated.

Throughout the movie, there are many different plotlines, character arcs and conflicts as Judy and Nick attempt to reunite. They end up realizing that they may be different, but that doesn’t mean they can’t work well together. The characters all seemed really well developed and more fleshed out than the first movie, which allowed us, as the audience, to feel as if we were in their shoes.

After the movie, many people stayed after for a bonus clip. The clip showed a feather falling from the sky, hinting that a third movie could come out potentially featuring birds.

Compared to the first “Zootopia,” we thought that “Zootopia 2” was far better.  Our main issue with the first one was its predictability, but with its new characters and plot twists, “Zootopia 2” exceeded our expectations. The plot twist was more shocking than the first one, which played a large part in the movie. In addition, the pacing was a lot more worked out and intentional, rather than rushed.

Our favorite part of the movie had to be Robert Irwin’s cameo. His character, Robert Furwin, was a koala who sold a ticket to an escaped convict traveling to Outback Island. The theatre was laughing and excited that a beloved celebrity made an appearance.

Overall, “Zootopia 2” was an exciting and hilarious movie we would recommend to audiences of all ages, and it is a film that is worth watching more than once.
