As Homecoming season approaches, excitement builds among Highlands High School students.
One of the big questions on students’ minds is what to wear.
This year, there are plenty of shopping options for dresses, including popular websites such as Lucy in the Sky, Oh Polly, and Lulu’s, or in-person shops like the local Beginning Boutique, Dillard’s, and Macy’s.
While it is most common to wear shorter formal dresses, it’s socially acceptable to wear longer or semi-formal dresses. You can find almost anything you want regarding style or material such as glitter, sequence, satin, silk, feathers, embellishments, and more.
An online optional poll was conducted here at Highlands, asking questions regarding dress details.
Dillards is the most popular place for girls to buy dresses, with Lulu’s and Hello Molly tied for the least popular.
The most popular color is blue, while the least popular is navy blue and plum purple.
Most people seem to be buying more dresses in person, but online shopping isn’t too far behind.
Caroline Weber (10) said, “My dress this year is red. I got it in person and on sale for $40; the original price was $90.”
When buying a formal dress, typical prices are expected to be between $100 and $300.
Edy Hobson (9) said, “My dress is purple, and I got it for $80.”
Something lower than that can be out of style, poor quality, or a great deal.
Ava Muzumdar (11) said, “I got my dress from Macy’s for $45.”
According to Windsor, a well-known online and in-person dress company, 6 homecoming dress trends of 2023 were colorful sequin mini dresses, over-the-top skater dresses, party dresses with sleeves, dresses with rosettes and ruffles, and dresses with bows and rhinestones and pearl accents.
Trends have shifted this year, but some things remain the same. 7 homecoming dress trends are being seen this 2024 season: bright colors, corset dresses, pearl embellishments, unique rhinestones and sequins, floral patterns, and long dresses.
According to Windsor, last year’s homecoming season color trends were hot pink, royal blue, purple, emerald green, and metallics. The trends have completely changed this year, and you can look forward to a new array of colors.
The colors for this 2024 season are sunny yellow, vibrant orange, lavender purple, light blue, romantic light pink, sage green, and dazzling white.
Marcella Simpson (12) said, “My dress for homecoming this year is dark green.”
