At the final buzzer in game number five against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Los Angeles Lakers fell short 103-96 to end their season in the first round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs. This brings up the big question: Will LeBron James continue to play, or end his career?
Some Highlands students were asked about their thoughts on LeBron and what they think he will do with his career.
“I think he’s a great player, in my opinion. I think he’s the best ever in the NBA, and I think he’s had a great career,” basketball player Cale Harris (10) said.
LeBron has also forever changed the game of basketball, from the play style to inspiring young basketball players.
“LeBron has changed the game because he works so hard, you know. He’s playing basketball at the age of 40, and nobody’s really, you know, still making an impact on a game like him,” basketball player Ty Berry (12) said.
Students seem to be optimistic about LeBron’s career continuing after the 2025 season, and many hope that his career will continue for multiple more years.
“I feel like he still has two more years in him. I feel like he wants to play with Bryce and Bryony. So Bryce still has at least one year to play in high school, and he could possibly get drafted it. You know, if his stock is high enough. So I feel like he got two more years in him,” Berry said.
LeBron has also left a well-known legacy in the league, and many people have different views on his career and legacy.
“He’s left a wonderful legacy. Everybody in the world knows LeBron. Everybody knows what he can do, how powerful he is, you know. People call him the G.O.A.T., so that’s the kind of big impact he left on the world,” Berry said.
LeBron also set the NBA scoring record in February of 2023, and continued to add on to it throughout the last two years. This raises many questions regarding the permanence of Lebron’s legacy as rising players attempt to beat his record.
“I do not think LeBron’s scoring record will ever be broken, only because I don’t think anybody will ever be able to play for as long as he did,” Harris said.
