TikTok is a viral social media app that has gained a lot of attention since 2020.
TikTok Shop has quickly become a prominent feature on the platform, allowing users to shop directly within the app. Items can be purchased through videos, live streams, or profile pages featuring the shopping bag icon. Products range from stylish outfits to innovative gadgets, all accessible with just a few clicks.
Young adults are leading the charge in embracing TikTok Shop.
According to Forbes, “Individuals aged 18 to 24 are 3.2 times more likely to shop on the platform compared to others, with those aged 25 to 34 being 1.8 times more likely. Teenagers, however, may not be as engaged with the shopping feature.”
Most students have purchased from the TikTok shop, or at least know what it is with the audience ranging from 18-24.
“I haven’t made any purchases off TikTok Shop, but I would if I found something amazing and eye-catching. But until then, I haven’t so far,” Morgan Lewis (11) said. “I see them all the time, like every five videos. Someone’s always showing off a candy, an outfit, or household items.”
TikTok’s ad frequency ensures high visibility for its shopping features.
“No, I have never bought from the TikTok Shop, and I haven’t really thought about buying anything from there,” Avery Ashcraft (9) said.
Ashcraft’s disinterest reflects the lack of engagement with TikTok Shop’s offerings.
“I see a couple ads on TikTok, but then again, I’m not 100% sure because I normally scroll on any type of ad,” Ashcraft said.
This shows how some users may habitually avoid engaging with ads.
TikTok Shop appears to be a mix of hits and misses.
For some, it offers an easy way to discover trendy products, while others see it as just another set of ads to skip. With its increasing visibility, TikTok Shop is likely to remain a prominent feature on the platform.
