Walking down the street with the cold winter breeze with beautiful lights, delicious smells, and snow covering the ground. Getting together with family to open the gifts—it is Christmas time.
Christmas is one of the most popular holidays. According to Parade, it was first celebrated on December 25, 336 AD.
“The date was chosen because it is nine months after the Annunciation, which celebrates Christ’s conception in the womb of the Virgin Mary, on March 25.”
Here are some activities people can do to spend their time if they are home for the holidays.
First, visit Fort Thomas Coffee.
Fort Thomas Coffee offers special holiday drinks to get everyone in the Christmas spirit as well as a giving tree. They set out a tree with papers hanging and each customer has the choice to pick from it. Then, a person can buy for the less fortunate. It is a great way to give to those in need of Christmas gifts.
“This is a beautiful way we encourage people to give back. We also try to make it fun as well, said Christine Smalley, the owner of Fort Thomas Coffee.
Fort Thomas Coffee is open from 6:30 AM to 9 PM on Monday through Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 6:30 AM to 10 PM, and lastly Sunday from 6:30 AM to 4 PM.
A second possibility is visiting the Fort Thomas Military and Community Museum.
“We are the display case for the souvenirs from times past. We are the scrapbook preserving the memories locked away in letters, photos and papers saved through the ages. We are the closet that holds those cast-offs that are too precious to toss away,” according to Fort Thomas KY.
The Fort Thomas Military and Community Museum’s goal is to teach people about the history of Fort Thomas and how it got to where it is today.
The museum has many things such as artifacts from military collections. For example, union uniform jackets and Iraqi freedom uniform socks. They also have photos, letters and scrapbooks from the Spanish-American war to Vietnam.
The museum is open on Friday to Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00 PM and on Sunday is open from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
Next, is the house decorating contest where you can drive around and check out Fort Thomas homes all decked out for the holiday season on Friday December 20 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
If interested in participating or nominating, please email Sam at [email protected] or call (859)572-1209,” the Fort Thomas KY website says.
This event takes place on December 20, 2024. It is a fun way to compete against local neighbors to see who can show more Christmas spirit.
Lastly, seniors can participate in games at the armory which takes place on January 7, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The games include billiards, basketball, spot shooting, cornhole toss, disc toss, mini golf, skittles, snowman toss, and tabletop games.
Although going somewhere during the break can be fun, staying local in Fort Thomas can also be a blast.
