Here at Highlands High School, there is a shop called the Bluebird Brew Cafe, and it opens again on Monday September 30.
As students prepare for the new school year, so will the cafe.
The Bluebird Brew Cafe is open Monday through Friday but only during the second, third, and fourth periods of the school day.
The cafe is a student-run business that allows students to experience and see what it takes to run a business.
Business teacher Elise Carter explained how the cafe is run, “Business students and some special education students come together to create drinks and deliver them to students throughout the school year.”
The students who will be running the cafe have learned a lot, and will continue to learn throughout their experience this year.
Evelyn Hopping (12) said, “We are learning about budgeting, what materials we will be using, how much it will cost, and how much we will have to order for each item.”
The cafe offers various drinks, from caramel frappuccinos to refreshing lemonades, but what sets them apart is their seasonal drinks.
During the winter, they will serve special drinks such as frozen hot chocolate.
The Bluebird Brew Cafe is also an excellent substitute for Starbucks. Everyone knows Starbucks has the best drinks, but you can also get the same drink at school without the risk of being tardy, and as a bonus it’s cheaper than Starbucks.
To place an order, students will need to download an app called Bluebird Brew Cafe, where they can see all the different types of drinks that are available.
