The hallways of Highlands High School are so excited to welcome new teachers and students this year. So many changes have been made, as well as a new choir teacher being accepted into the arts department. The choir director, Chris Eaton, is thrilled to take the choir program to new heights.
Eaton comes to HHS with a background full of music education. He grew up in Racine, Wisconsin, just south of Milwaukee. He earned his bachelor’s degree in music education at the University of Wisconsin and he completed his student teaching at Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
This will be Eaton’s first year as a director, and he is excited to embrace this opportunity.
Eaton explained, “I hope to be an instrumental part of our school musicals by giving students a positive vocal experience and showing audience members what vast talent we have here at Highlands.”
With a new perspective and big ideas, Eaton hopes to show exactly what choir is here at HHS.
His approach to the classroom is designed to challenge students as well as become a support system for them. He hopes to encourage students to stay in the program from middle school through their high school years.
“This year, I plan to provide students with challenging and enriching opportunities to make music. I also want to encourage middle school students to consider continuing in choir throughout high school.”
As the school year begins, students are eager to see where Eaton takes the program and how it develops. Many students have said they are excited to see where this year takes them on their journey in choir.
Wyatt Anderson (9) said, “I think he’s good and I really like him. He teaches exactly what we need.”
The HHS music program looks bright this year with the help of Eaton. As the school year unfolds, the school community eagerly awaits the unforgettable performances that are sure to come.
