Highlands High School (HHS) is officially back for a new school year, and new faces are everywhere! This both includes new students and teachers. One of these new teachers is in the drama department.
The new drama teacher, Claire LaNicca is excited for her first school year at HHS. She has so many fresh ideas for the theater program, such as creating three solid productions this year, creating a new environment for the students, and adding her own twist to our amazing theater program.
Lanicca said, “I plan to take an already awesome theater program and add my own little spice to it. I love learning what makes my students tick and then creating an environment where they absolutely thrive.”
Students are also extremely excited about the opportunities that come with a new teacher and are excited to see where this year takes them.
Logan Szymanski (11) explained, “I am excited for this year because I want to see what she does differently technically and technically from what we did in years prior.”
LaNicca obtained her undergraduate degree from Indiana University in theater and drama, and her masters in secondary education from Xavier University. With these degrees, she has been a theater director for 10 years, making this her 11th year teaching.
Since her elementary school days, she has been interested in theater. Since 2011, she has been acting in the local Northern Kentucky area as well as in Cincinnati.
“I am actually in a production opening next month at the Falcon Theatre in Newport!”
Teaching isn’t the only thing LaNicca does; she’s also a huge sports fan. As she is a big fan of the Bengals and FC Cincinnati teams, going to games is such a fun experience for her. Friends and family are also huge for her and she enjoys spending time with them.
LaNicca said, “I like adventuring, experiencing new things, and spending time with my friends and family.”
As she settles into her new school, LaNicca can’t wait to get to know all of her students and create magic on the stage. HHS is so excited to see what she does for our amazing drama department this year!

Highlands is lucky to have her. My daughter just graduated from Campbell County and she was not only her favorite teacher but got her interested in theater. She did lighting her last two years and not only loved it but met a new group of good friends she probably wouldn’t have otherwise.
