The Post Positions for the 150th Kentucky Derby.

The Kentucky Derby is a known horse race in Kentucky and worldwide, usually held the first week of May. The horses run a mile and a quarter in about two minutes at Churchill Downs, Louisville, KY.

Now this Saturday, May 4, the 150th anniversary of the Kentucky Derby will arrive, making room for up to 150,000 people. Before that the Kentucky Oaks is held on May 3, a lead-up to the main event.

Reaching out to HHS students, some do celebrate the Kentucky Derby.

Senior Maggie Carnohan stated: “I will most likely be with my friends and family watching the derby

Some have special traditions, junior Addyson Stepner stated: “It depends on the year where we go, but we obviously watch it. Also, the big hats are a big part”.

While others chill back and spend, senior Carson Welch stated: “I hang out with friends and family.” Sophomore Blake Hegner stated: “For the derby I hang out with some friends and family and place bets on who I think is going to win”.

Tipton is a Senior at Highlands Highschool and has been enrolled in Fort Thomas Independent Schools since Kindergarten at Moyer Elementary. She struggled with writing for years until she took AP Seminar in her Sophomore year. She loves reading when it comes to books she is interested in and would like to increase the number of writing abilities she thinks she can accomplish. She is an opinionated person who can speak on one topic that she believes could potentially affect her perception of life. Olivia is a hard worker in school and in her part-time job. She has learned how to manage her time over the years and figured out what works for her and what does not. Her love for family and friends is out of this world and although school and her job are important to her, she puts those she loves first.
