With the start of the new school year, there have been many new additions to the staff and faculty at Highlands High School. One of these additions is Teresa Cain, the counseling department’s new secretary.
Prior to joining the Highlands staff, Cain worked just across town at Woodfill Elementary as an instructional assistant for the special education program. She has experience in both the administrative and human resources departments.
“I’ve always been passionate about supporting others in reaching their full potential, both academically and personally,” Cain said. “The counseling and administrative department offers a unique opportunity to combine that passion with structured, system-level work that can positively impact an entire school.”
Not only does Cain have experience with teaching and guiding students, but she also proves herself to be a good leader to athletes as a softball coach.
“I’ve coached for several years — including nine seasons at Highlands High School — which has further developed my leadership, communication, and team-building skills,” Cain said.
Although she’s not originally from Fort Thomas, Cain started to appreciate the community here during her coaching career.
“I fell in love with the school system and the close-knit community,” Cain described. “We made the decision to move here and make it our home.”
As the counseling secretary, she is now in charge of overseeing all of the processes that counselors are going through, as well as having some of her own meetings with students. Through thick and thin, Cain is excited to help the Highlands community as much as possible.
“Whether it’s helping a student navigate a personal challenge or improving operational efficiency behind the scenes, this role allows me to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives every day,” Cain said.
Her coworkers are already seeing the huge impact that Cain is making for everyone at Highlands, including themselves. Counselor Ann Listerman has no doubt that Cain’s influence will continue throughout this school year, as well as years to come.
“She knows many students and already has made great connections with our students and staffulty,” Listerman said. “I believe as the year moves forward, Ms. Cain’s positive energy and willingness to help wherever she can be is going to benefit all of us greatly here at Highlands.”
With her experience in administrative work and her interest in advising students and athletes, Cain is already proving herself to have a promising influence on the Highlands community.
