There are many fun things the City of Fort Thomas does but one that might spark interest is the Independence day T-Shirt design contest.
In a spirited celebration of creativity and patriotism, our middle school launches an exciting T-Shirt competition.
“This all came about from the HMS Quest students last year who hosted the competition,” Sam Shelton, a City Administrative Assistant for the City of Fort Thomas said.
There are many different design themes that could have been chosen but there was one chosen for a Fort Thomas resident this year.
“This year’s theme is “Honoring Our History”. This theme was chosen to honor Deanna and Jim Beineke who have volunteered with the city for decades in different capacities. Notably Deanna’s dedication to the Museum and her book, From Peach Orchard To Park, which tells the story about the military post,” Shelton said.
There are different things that the contestants could do to be creative but it has to reach a certain criteria.
“Criteria that the judges will go off of is: Single-color design, represents the theme well, and a clear design that’ll be eye catching,” Shelton said.
There are many different things the city could do to vote for the winning design but they chose a certain one so that the city would be happy with the design chosen.
“We have local artists that will help with the judging. The top designs will then go onto the next round where the designs will be voted on by the public,” Shelton said.
There are goals for the contest that many might not know about.
“The main goals for the 4th of July T-Shirt Design Contest is to foster community pride and civic engagement, provide a creative platform for local youth and artists, and create a memorable, community-designed t-shirt for the city’s 4th of July celebration,” Brianne Mcdowell, the QUEST (Quality Utilization and Enrichment of Student Talents) teacher at Highlands Middle School said.
The deadline is coming soon so come up with designs and submit them in.
“Deadline to submit designs is May 16,” Shelton said.
