For many students at Highlands High School, summer break is a great opportunity to take a 3-month break away from classes, tests, quizzes, and assignments.
Some students may spend the break by going to the beach, swimming in the pool, or traveling. Other students may dive into activities that can help their future after they graduate from high school, like doing volunteer work, taking summer classes, or working to earn money.
Most students at Highlands are going on trips this summer during the break.
“I am traveling to Kauai, Hawaii, over summer break,” Madelyn Bottomley (10) said.
Some people are traveling to a different state for summer break.
“I am going on [probably] road trips over summer break,” Natalie Kirst (9) said.
Out of a Google Form that was done, everyone who responded is excited for summer break.
“I am excited for summer break because I will have graduated,” Lianne Guttadauro (12) said.
A lot of students are excited about the break because they will have their driver’s permit.
“I am excited for summer break because I am free to do whatever I want, and I will also have my permit by then,” Isabella Carty (9) said.
Most students are excited for the break because they won’t have to worry about stress from school.
“I am excited for summer break because the stress of school is over and I can focus on bettering myself financially and physically,” Noah Gregory (10) said.
Students may also use the break to try and learn something new, such as learning how to play an instrument, learning a new language, or learning how to draw. Other students may try to improve a skill they already have.
“I would love to further improve my skills to lead through a theatre program that I am doing and maybe get involved more throughout the summer,” Carty said.
Some people are going to work on improving themselves over summer break.
“I am going to work on my mental health over summer break,” Angelena Stephens (9) said.
The three months of summer break offer opportunities for students to have personal growth. How students spend summer break can impact their mindset and set a positive tone for when the new school year starts.
